Why is lead used on roofs?
Lead is durable, malleable and completely waterproof, which makes it ideal for sealing the awkward junctions where roofs meet walls, chimneys and valleys.
Can you replace old or damaged lead?
Yes. We remove failed or poorly fitted lead and replace it with correctly sized, properly dressed leadwork that will last for decades.
Why does leadwork crack or fail?
Lead expands and contracts with temperature. If it's the wrong thickness (code) or fitted in over-long lengths, that movement causes splits over time. Correctly sized, properly lapped lead avoids this.
Are there cheaper alternatives to lead?
There are lead-alternative flashings and they have their place, but for durability and a proper finish around chimneys and walls, correctly fitted lead is hard to beat. We'll advise on the best option for your roof.
